Cleansing

Use a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner or a clarifying shampoo when washing your LA Weave

Unlike other methods with a weft you can wash your hair whenever you are ready, there is no waiting period.

It is recommended you wash your hair a maximum of 2/3 times a week using products that have been recommended. Use a dry shampoo between washes if necessary. *your hair may feel very heavy when wet.

Never shampoo your extensions with your head over the sink or bath. Standing upright in the shower or tilting your head back in the bath is recommended to avoid tangling. Apply your shampoo and gently massage or stroke into the scalp taking care not to pull or catch the weft or the rings; do not use the traditional circular motion, use a gentle up and down or stroking motion; work the shampoo gently through the scalp and under each weft with your fingertips.

There is no need to shampoo mid lengths as the lather will run through when you are rinsing. Ensure you rinse thoroughly paying extra attention to the root area; inadequate rinsing can cause a build-up of shampoo along the top of the weft which will irritate the scalp causing it to become flaky.

For clients with oily or very soft hair a clarifying shampoo is recommended; wash the scalp only and allow the lather to flow through when you rinse your hair. This helps prevent any slipping of the micro rings by removing excess oils. Never tie you hair extensions up when wet, this will cause matting.

CONDITIONING

Do not apply conditioner to the root area, always avoid the weft rings.  Apply to the mid lengths and ends only and comb through using a wide tooth comb; do not attempt to comb hair above the rings.  Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep hair in optimum condition; and make sure too rinse thoroughly. Gently squeeze out excess water and pat with a towel.

PROTECTING

Use of heat protection thermal sprays or serums are highly recommended; care should be taken to avoid the root area / Micro rings to prevent slipping. Try to avoid overly using straightening irons. Blonde hair has especially been through a lot of processing and more care is needed.

DRYING

Do not leave your wet hair wrapped in a towel for a prolonged amount of time, as it will make the extensions harder to brush. Gently towel dry using a patting motion, never rub. Apply a leave in conditioner or hair oil; apply to the mid lengths & ends. Comb through using a wide tooth comb, always support the hair at the root area when brushing or combing, starting at the ends, gently work up to towards the top of the weft.

Section the hair by each individual weft. Start with the bottom weft and pin the rest out of the way. Gently rough dry your hair on a low heat setting until nearly dry, then using a hair extension brush, work from ends to the top of the weft. Never tug on the hair. Repeat with the next weft row until your entire weft and natural hair have been covered.

Ensure the top of the wefts are dry, even if you plan to let the rest dry naturally.  Leaving your hair wet in the attachment area will cause the rings to slide down. The fabric and stitching on the weft can also breakdown and rot overtime if they are not dried properly; this is known as weft rot.

 BRUSHING

Only use a brush specifically designed to be used with hair extensions. Separate the bottom weft row and pin the rest out of the way. Hold the weft at the scalp to support the extension and gently brush starting from the bottom and work your way up towards the weft and rings.

Gently brush over the weft  in a downward motion. Your extension brush has flexible bristle which will bend over the rings without catching .Ensure natural hair is brushed in the same way. Continue to work up through the head, row by row.  Ensure you do this at least once a day (best in the morning after sleeping) to prevent any matting occurring.

STYLING

You can style your extensions as you would your natural hair including the use of heat tools; don’t forget your thermal sprays or serum!  Again avoid the use of oily styling products on the scalp.

SLEEPING

Tie hair in a loose low ponytail or plait, Never ever go to bed with wet hair extensions, this will cause severe matting.Silk pillow cases can help prevent tangling.

 SWIMMING

Always tie up, preferably in a bun and avoid going under the water or if it is unavoidable You can protect the mid lengths and ends  by dampening the hair, holding in a ponytail and applying a watered down conditioner solution (mid length and ends) plait and secure it up out of the way. Shampoo immediately after.  Never leave wet hair tied up after swimming.

 PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Tie hair back when doing physical exercise. wash after.

SAUNAS / STEAM ROOM

Regular use is not recommended, wrap dry hair in a towel or hair turban.

SUNBEDS

Wrap dry hair in a towel or hair turban.

COLOURING YOUR EXTENSIONS

Not recommended on processed hair/ virgin hair can be coloured.

CUTTING

Extensions are cut using a different technique than your natural hair, always return to me for a cut. During your course of wear it is advised you have a trim to keep your extensions looking healthy- remember it is real hair so they will get tatty and split the same as your own hair!

 HAIR EXTENSIONS ABROAD

Going abroad requires further aftercare as excessive sun, heat exposure, sea salt and chlorinated pools, all dry out our natural hair and it is exactly the same for your hair extensions. All these factors can shorten the lifespan of your extensions and cause them to dry out. Use leave in conditioner to help combat the drying effects of the sun.

If you are dipping in and out of the pool, place your hair in a bun or use a sun hat, wash the chlorine out thoroughly at the end of the day.

Blonde clients are recommended to use a clear hair oil as opposed to Argon / Moroccan Oil due to it being orange in colour, combined with the heat and sun exposure this can also change the extension colour. No responsibility/ liability will be accepted for problems arising when clients go on holiday wearing extensions so take extra care protecting them!

REMOVAL

You must return to have your weft extensions professionally removed within 8/10weeks (this will also depend on your natural hair growth and shed rate) Failure to do so could result in damage to your natural hair.

 RE-FITS

Can be done on the same day; there is no need for a rest period as your rows will be alternated to avoid any strain in one area.

The Micro Weft is applied very close to the scalp and may feel quiet tight after your application; this is normal and will settle within a few days. The scalp can become a bit itchy and can be difficult to get in and scratch, this can be eased by patting the area.

CLEANSING

Leave washing your hair for at least 48 hours after application of fusion and micro rings

Before washing, de-tangle the hair and separate the bonds. Hair should be washed 2/3 maximum a week.

It is essential that you only use shampoo recommended for hair extensions when washing your hair. This will be shampoo and conditioner that is sulphate free; these products have been specifically designed to protect keratin bonds.

Using non-extension hair care products can severely cut the lifespan of your extension bonds and extension hair, causing dryness and tangling.

Smooth the shampoo onto the scalp/ root area gently massaging between the bonds/micro links. There is no need to wash the mid-lengths and ends the lather will cleanse the hair as you rinse– never rub as tangling will occur.

CONDITIONING

Do not apply conditioner to the bonds/ micro rings; apply to the mid lengths and ends of the hair.

Condition your hair standing upright (a shower is ideal). Never tip your extensions to wash over a sink or bath this can cause matting, pat hair gently with a towel to remove excess water. Deep treat your hair once a week with a repairing mask; this will keep it nourished.

DRYING

Before drying spritz a thermal protector, Protein Spray, Argon Oil or serum onto your hair; this will help to keep your hair extensions in optimum condition. Dry your extension bond area using the cool setting on your hairdryer/ warm is fine for micro links. Never use the hot setting as this can melt bonds or cause stickiness over a period of time.

Slightly rough dry the hair off, then blow dry Section by section using a round vent brush or extension brush, point the hair drier down the hair shaft towards the floor to smooth the extension hair; be gentle never tug on the hair.

If you would like to let your hair extensions dry naturally make sure to dry the bond area of with the hairdryer this applies to fusion bonds and micro links, leaving your hair bonds wet will cause them to slide out.

SLEEPING

Give your hair a good brush before bed, hair should be tied back at night when sleeping, this will help avoid tangling and matting, never go to bed with wet hair always dry it off first. Real Silk pillows can help avoid tangling.

HAIR STYLING

Always use a thermal protection spray when using heated hair appliances, if you use hair straighteners always glide down the hair shaft without stopping and keep well away from fusion bonds, it will melt them causing them to come out. I recommend limited use of tongs and straighteners as they will dry the hair out over time,

blonde hair will need even more protection – remember this is real hair and will split and burn as your own hair does!

MAINTAINANCE

As the bonds grow down (Fusion) Make sure to separate your bonds, check them every day by just feeling, make sure they are not tangling together - it only takes a few minutes!  (Micro rings will be pushed up at your 6 week maintenance appointment)

You should return after 6 weeks for a maintenance check, if you are wearing micro rings they will need pushing up.  If you feel you have any matting you should make an earlier appointment, bring any hair with you that you may have lost so it can be re applied. It is important to keep your 6 week appointment.

 HAIR EXTENSIONS ABROAD

Take extra care when abroad; keep hair protected from the strong sun, sea and chlorine; if it does come into contact with chlorine wash your hair immediately. Use a leave in conditioner during the day when around the pool and spritz your hair regularly. Take a deep nourishing hair treatment and treat your hair whilst away.

A sun hat or cap is always a good idea. Remember if you are wearing blonde hair that argan oils can stain your hair due to its orange colouring, use a clear serum.
